Scented playdough

Playdough with herbs and essential oils (such as peppermint, or rosemary)

Materials Required

  • 4 cups plain four + a little extra for children to knead dough
  • 2 cups water + food dye
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Table
  • Peppermint essence or other natural scents/oils

Optional materials

Collect coloured flower petals from the garden to add - creates a natural colour and scent to the dough

Gather the measuring cups, ingredients and bowl ready to start

Experience Steps

  1. Mix the ingredients together in the bowl, add sensory elements such as peppermint essence at this stage or gather herbs from the garden.
  2. Knead the dough roughly.
  3. Divide amongst children and use the extra flour to knead.
  4. Create!
  5. Store covered in cling wrap or an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

This is a quiet experience so remember to include physical activity into your day this may be as simple as going for a walk to collect natural materials to use with the playdough.
